The Lyons Den - Educational Resources

Classroom Tour
These are some pictures from my previous classroom. Many of you have requested to see them. So here they are - hope you enjoy!

What Are We Learning?
This is where I display the standards for the week. The standards
have been written in student friendly language. It is very easy when a visitor comes to my classroom for them to know exactly what we are learning that week.

Interactive Word Wall
This is our interactive word wall. I begin the year with the students names and the first nine weeks popcorn words that we will learn. As the year continues I add more words each week.

"Toad" ally Awesome Work
This is a display that I have in the hallway. I use this board to hang outstanding work up for all to see. The children love to see when I choose a
piece of their work and hang it up.

Student Display Boards
This display is in the hallway right outside my classroom door. I have a display board for each student on the wall. I use the boards to display student work.

I Can Read!
This is an environmental word wall. I begin the year with this word wall showing students that they can read. I have pictures of candy bars and several environmental pictures that they can read such as; Wal-mart, Chuck E. Cheese, Barbie, K-Mart, Target, etc.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
This is the display outside my classroom. The teacher next door and I plan our displays together so we will match.

A closer look
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Look Who's In Mr. Lyons' Room. I took pictures of each student and hung them on the tree.

Calendar Time
This is a picture of my calendar board. The children love calendar time and there are so many skills and concepts that you can teach by effectively utilizing your calendar.

The 100's Club
This board is used as an incentive from day one to get students counting. Once a student can count to 100 I put a card with their name on it on the board. They LOVE it! This is something so simple, yet it really gets the children excited and by Christmas you will be surprised that the majority of your children are counting to 100. I also give them a certificate that they get to take home to celebrate with their family.

Carpet Area
This is where most whole group activities take place. Each student has their own letter to sit on at the carpet. I LOVE the white easel - it serves as a dry erase board and holds charts and big books. It has storage under it as well.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Tree
I get emails all the time asking me how to make this tree. So I am going to go ahead and put the directions right here.
•The base is a carpet roll tube (if you go to your local carpet store and ask for an empty carpet roll tube they will give you one if they have one or they will save one for you).
•The base is then wrapped in brown butcher paper
•I then added the cut out letters.
•The top is an umbrella covered with green leaves that I drew and cut out and the umbrella arm is slid down inside the carpet roll tube.
•The base is then stuck inside a Christmas Tree stand.
Not very difficult to make - it just takes a little time. Every couple of years you will probably have to add new leaves and new letters as they tend to fade a bit.
